History of Liberty Township Tea Party Community Group (LTTP)

The Liberty Township Tea Party Group was established in the summer of 2009 after the Cincinnati Tea Party West Chester Meeting held at the Miami University Voice of America Learning Center (MU-VOALC) on June 26th, 2009. On this evening individuals were asked to step forward and provide leadership to form Community Tea Party organizations in their respective communities. Four individuals, from Liberty Township, took that step to form and provide leadership for the Liberty Township Tea Party, a Community Group of the Cincinnati Tea Party which operates under the Cincinnati Groups 527 Political Action Charter. The following Saturday morning the organizing committee met with a member of the Cincinnati Tea Party for a breakfast meeting where we went over what would be required to form a Community Group. All agreed that we had the information that we needed to start the group and we scheduled a follow-up meeting for the next day, Sunday, to start what would become the Liberty Township Tea Party organization. The Cincinnati Tea Party supplied us with a start-up list of Liberty Township email addresses which was a big help. We printed up a flyer and went around to several Liberty Township neighborhoods announcing our upcoming meeting. We had identified a meeting space in the Liberty Township Fire Department that was available at no charge. Not knowing how many Patriots would show up we were quite worried about our first meeting, but the fire chief offered to move the trucks out of the large parking bay for our meeting in case we had more than the 30 allowed in the meeting room (fire code don’t you know!). Problem solved! The organizing team planned the initial gathering and developed an agenda. In the meantime, one of the organizing committee members is an IT professional by trade, and took on the task of developing a website for the Liberty Township Tea Party. We all pitched in and developed content for the site and by the time of our first meeting we had at least the beginnings of a website for people to visit.

So, here we are, it’s our first meeting and ninety-four (94) patriots show up far exceeding our expectations so we just moved everyone to the truck bay where there was plenty of room . Since then we are holding meetings at a different location where we have more room to accommodate more Patriots. Our second meeting drew over one hundred and fifty patriots.  We have formed volunteer committees to help manage this growing group and we need help on many critical issues. Our website has developed very nicely and you will find it at Liberty Township Tea Party.

We are over a year old now and can boast that we have over 1000 members and many more that are sympathetic to our cause.  Our meetings have remained popular with the average meeting drawing nearly 100 people.  We have conducted candidate forums that have been very well attended.  We have hosted groups from outside the state and have had a very diverse group of speakers and topics at our meetings.  Our first year culminated with a “Watch Party” held on Election Night at the Ronald Reagan Lodge at Voice of America Park in West Chester, OH.  This event was attended by over 300 people and included a video link with the now Speaker of the House John Boehner our Congressman in the 8th District.   We are now gearing up for the race for 2012 so there is much to do.  We have also become an independent group and are a 501c3 tax exempt organization.   That is our history so far.  Everyday forward is a new day and we are continually amazed at this movement.  It is truly a “grassroots movement” and for this we are truly grateful.

It is now 2012 and  we are truly an independent grassroots group, having cut all ties to the Cincinnati Tea Party, and having decided not to endorse nor join the statewide Ohio Liberty Council.  We do participate in a local independent grassroot group of like-minded TeaParties that have organized under the banner of Our Tea Party.org  More can be learned about that group at www.ourtp.org

Our first meeting of the year is just about upon us and we are gearing up for a big election year.  We expect there will be much to do.  Everything we have done up to now has been leading up to this effort and we are ready for it.  Bring it on!
